Caribbean American Heritage Month Celebrations in Montgomery County

Caribbean Dance Traditions 450x280Montgomery County and the County Executive’s Caribbean American Advisory Group will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Caribbean American Heritage Month with two events in the month of June.

This year’s theme is “Caribbean … Champions of Inclusivity.”

  • Saturday, June 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., Montgomery County Public Libraries will present a Caribbean American Heritage Month Festival at the Silver Spring Library at 900 Wayne Avenue. Enjoy a Caribbean fashion show, Caribbean dances performed by “White House Studios,” and storytelling by Kwesi Oginga.
  • Saturday, June 18, from 2 to 6 p.m., a Community Picnic will be held at Wheaton Regional Park located at 2000 Shorefield Road. Featured at the picnic will be Caribbean art exhibits, storytelling, music, and food provided by Caribbean Food Trucks. A joint proclamation will be issued by County Executive Isiah Leggett and County Council President Nancy Floreen.
