Thousands Expected to Celebrate the Cambodian New Year in Silver Spring This Weekend
Volunteers and staff from the Cambodian Buddhist Society Inc are expecting more than 3,000 residents from across Montgomery County to celebrate the Cambodian New Year on April 15 and 16 in Silver Spring.
“Cambodian New Years, traditionally back at home, is celebrated for three days and three nights,” Ken Kiv, volunteer coordinator for the Cambodian Buddhist Temple in Silver Spring said.
Organizers said although the celebration will only last for a weekend here in Silver Spring, residents should expect an authentic experience, just like in Cambodia.
“We’ll have a light show, a band, traditional games, classical dance and food,” said Kiv.
Organizers say the goal of this event is for residents to reconnect with home and to show neighbors how Cambodian culture is celebrated.
