Caddie Day the Second Day of #QLNational
You may never have heard of Brent Henley, Jeff Weber, Mike Greller or Joe Lacava on the PGA Tour but these are caddies and they are out there in camera view. The key names may change from week to week depending on the gig or the foibles of their managers. But one thing is for sure they are here this week in Bethesda and so are their respective bosses, PGA Players Robert Garrigus, Davis Love III, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods.
Their work begins well before I show up to take their pictures walking along the green grass. It’s hard work and the payday varies based on how well the boss does. Most work on a percentage basis of between 6 and 10 percent of the purse winnings but who is counting – that’s all between the employer and employee.
Rarely do they appear in the news let alone get to be a feature unless there is a specific involvement – sort of like Patrick Reed and his wife Justine, who just happened to be his caddie here last year at Congressional.
So if you take a glorious walk along the greenery that is Congressional on Saturday and Sunday pay particular attention to the caddies. Their role is a subordinate one but see if you can make a game out of their activities to amuse yourself while you stand and sweat in the heat – I did.
Look at these and see if you can match up Caddie Day games of Leapfrog, or don’t touch my putter or is that really my ball – or did you just find that one in the rough.
Have fun this weekend – take the family or golf buddies out to Congressional – it is one of those summer must do things in the greater MoCo area.
