Approximately 100 people visited the open house that featured a celebration of Brazilian culture with food, samba dance performances and local community vendors.

“My hope is to get our community inspired about different cultures around the world. This country is such a Melting Pot! and why not to give “ a virtual Trip” around the world to share traditions, values and culture,” said Patricia Coronado, membership director of YMCA in Silver Spring.

During the event, attendees had the chance to taste coxinha, pao de queijo, beijinho, brigadeiro and learned some samba moves. Local vendors also participated to promote healthy living in the community.

“We had a health and wellness company doing product sampling. We also had Pyramid Atlantic Art Center who displayed in our hallway ‘The 45 record project’ made by Local Youth Artist. We also had tables displaying information about YMCA Summer Camp programs and Tennis Program as well,” Coronado said.
