Someone is showing their appreciation for Montgomery County police by leaving blue hearts with inspirational messages on their cruisers.

Officer Tara Bond said she picked up her cruiser Tuesday at the Silver Spring substation and noticed the hearts.

The heart read: “Thank you for protecting us out here in these mean streets.”

“The outpouring of support that I’ve received personally as a police officer in Montgomery County has been overwhelming and everybody’s been really great,” Bond said.

Other cruisers Tuesday had similar hearts and messages in lots with cruisers.

Officer Rick Goodale, police spokesman, said no one is counting the hearts, and the only tally is from what officers are posting on their social media accounts.

“I think people want to show their appreciation and support,” said Bond, who has spent 11½ years with the force. “We appreciate it a lot right now because times aren’t always easy.”

Other residents have left officers goody bags with 5-hour energy drinks, hand sanitizer and warmers, granola bars and candy. A mother and her sons left a cake at the 5th District station, Goodale said.

On Christmas Eve, at the McDonald’s drive-through, someone in the car ahead of her bought her dinner.

“The outpouring of support that I’ve received personally as a police officer in Montgomery County has been overwhelming and everybody’s been really great,” Bond said.
