Northwest had its chances at the end of regulation tied at 67 a piece with 15 seconds on the clock.  The Jaguars had possession for the last shot.  Bringing the ball the length of the court they faced a taut, in-your-face Gaithersburg defense.  NW turned the ball over and headed to overtime.

The Gaithersburg Trojans played from behind the entire game briefly leading 59 – 56 with 4:30 left in regulation.  They gave up that lead at the 3:29 mark and just hung on to tie the game.

Meanwhile in overtime, Gaithersburg’s Jao Ituka dumped in 11 points to add to his total of 24 on the evening.  NW never got the momentum back in the extra period. They only put four points on the boards in overtime and saw their great effort falter in that last five minutes of the game.

Gaithersburg fell out of the DMV’s Washington Post High School sports top 20 this week after they lost to Richard Montgomery on Friday, January 10.
