Big Heart Award – Blair Varsity Football

There are the little things that at times tells you what a football team is made of.

For me that time was at the end of the Quince Orchard game when Blair and QO met at midfield for the line up. I overheard Blair players telling QO player’s things like “Keep winning, or have a great season, or great game” but it was Blair players standing tall who kept their heads high and gave their opponents shoulder and helmet taps that was more significant. It showed their heart.

It’s not easy preparing for a large opponent like QO. I stopped by Blair on Thursday’s practice this week while on assignment to cover a tennis match. I watched them. The boys hustled, they were engaged; they were under manned and under staffed.

At some point Blair boosters need to take that same big heart approach that their team displayed Friday evening. They need to step up and build the feeder system that helps the community, fill the stands and rally around a program. Until that happens the lopsided score hung up by QO on the Blair scoreboard (that did not work) will only get larger.

Quince Orchard 55, Blair 0.
