Update: Bethesda Native Picked for Supreme Court
Update, July 10: Judge Brett Kavanaugh has been tapped by President Donald Trump to serve on the Supreme Court, replacing Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Another local tie to Kavanaugh: He was a classmate of state Sen. Richard Madaleno at Georgetown Prep, according to Madaleno’s Facebook page.
Original Post: A Bethesda native is on the list of possible supreme court nominees to fill the seat of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, who announced his retirement back in June.
President Trump announced on Twitter that he would make a choice for Justice of The United States Supreme Court on the first Monday after Independence Day.
Back in November, Trump released a supreme court list of people he felt were most qualified for the role. One of those names is Federal Judge Brett Kavanaugh in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
According to his bio, Kavanaugh is graduate of Georgetown Prep School in North Bethesda. He grew up in Bethesda and his wife, Ashley Kavanaugh serves as Town Manager of Section 5 of Chevy Chase Village in Maryland.
