Bethesda Man Charged with Sex Offense Against Teen

A 73-year-old Bethesda man has been charged with fourth-degree sexual offense and sexual abuse of a teenage male, according to a Montgomery County police statement.

No bail has been set for Howard Earl Alpert, 73, of Adelaide Drive, who is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center, according to online court records.

The victim had done yard work at Alpert’s home, starting in the early summer of 2015 through May 2017, police said. When the the teen came to Alpert’s home, Alpert would invite him in the home to eat and talk, police said.

Alpert had inappropriate sexual contact with the victim without the his consent, police said. Alpert took photographs of the teenager working in the yard; at least once, Alpert instructed him to take off the his shirt and took a photograph of him shirtless, police said.

Alpert was arrested at his home Friday.

Alpert was a teacher at a charter school in the District of Columbia, but the victim in this case was not a student at the school, police said.
