Attorney General Gansler to Attend Renters Alliance Meeting

Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler will attend the Montgomery County Renters Alliance, Inc. first Bethesda regional meeting on Monday, December 10 from 7 – 9 p.m.

Gansler is expected to provide an overview of his office’s work combating landlord abuse and to discuss his recognition that renters are increasingly vulnerable as consumers when laws to protect them do not exist.

“More than one-third of Montgomery County residents are renters,” said Renters Alliance Executive Director Matt Losak. “Landlords are well-organized, highly financed and well-represented. Renters are raising their voices for greater protection against abusive landlords, ineffective government policy and rent gouging.”

The Renters Alliance meeting is a working session on building tenants associations and taking action. It will take place at the Bethesda/Chevy Chase Regional Service Center, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda and is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m.

Attorney General Douglas Gansler will speak at this meeting. State Senator Jamie Raskin, State Delegates Sheila Hixson and Tom Hucker and County Council Members Marc Elrich and Phil Andrews will be on the panel.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend.

The Renter Alliance is a 501-C-3 nonprofit organization based in Silver Spring, Maryland. The organization was founded in 2010 in response to a recommendation by the Montgomery County Tenants Work Group report which called for the formation of an organization dedicated to providing tenant education and advocacy.
