Ashman Elected Mayor, Spiegel, Wu and Harris to Council in Gaithersburg (PHOTOS & VIDEOS)
Jud Ashman has been elected Mayor and Ryan Spiegel, Robert Wu and Neil Harris have been elected to the Gaithersburg City Council, according to unofficial election results from the November 3rd election.
MyMCMedia talked to Ashman shortly after the results were announced at Gaithersburg City Hall and he said he was overwhelmed with gratitude for the community’s support.
The results are expected to be certified by the Gaithersburg Board of Supervisors of Elections on November 4, and the officials will be sworn in at a special meeting on Monday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. The Mayor will serve a two year term and each of the Council members will serve a four year term.
Joan More, the chair of the Gaithersburg Board of Supervisors of Elections, said 3,683 ballots were cast out of 33,409 registered voters, or 11.02%. That’s more than twice the voter turnout in the city’s 2013 election.
Mayoral candidate Ashman received 2,380 votes (64.62%), Henry Marraffa Jr. received 1,003 votes (27.23%), and Darline Bell-Zuccarelli received 251 votes (6.82%).
The candidates with the highest number of votes for City Council were Spiegel with 2,567 (69.70%), Wu with 2,498 votes (67.83%), and Harris with 2,374 votes (64.46%). Candidate Laurie-Anne Sayles finished in fourth place with 2,094 votes (56.86%). These results are unofficial until certified by the Board of Supervisors of Elections on November 4.
