American Spirit Takes Over Rockville Town Square (Video)
The weather was in the 90’s and the sun was beating down on Rockville Town Square, but that didn’t stop a large crowd from hanging out in front of a giant screen Tuesday to cheer on team USA in the World Cup.

There were sighs, and there were cheers.
But the overall theme of a local World Cup watch party in Rockville Town Square was patriotism, with many showing off their best red, white and blue from their wardrobes.

“Oh yeah, that’s just for the game and to show off my American spirit,” said Adam Cotner who came to watch the game from Alexandria, Va.
“I’m here today because I really wanted to celebrate the game,”said Erin Koppel of Rockville. “I’m so excited that I got to do it in my hometown with all of my friends.”
“I wasn’t expecting to see actually a giant TV out so it’s really nice to come out and see all of these people gathered and ready,” said Hannah Wang of Gaithersburg.
The big screen, sponsored by Rockville Town Square, was close to work for some who took advantage of a place nearby to cheer on their team.
“As soon as our meetings were over we ran over to see what we could see and right now it’s not good news but fingers crossed,” said Adam Sauri, a Gaithersburg resident who works in Rockville.
“I work here at Rockville Town Square and just catching the game and hopefully we’ll win our game in overtime,” said Daniel Portocarrero, a Germantown resident who works in Rockville.
And even though team USA didn’t pull off a win, losing to Belgium 2-1 in overtime, fans young and old were grateful for the change to cheer on their team with the community.
“It’s pretty exciting, more fun than just sitting at home quietly on the coach awkwardly shouting to yourself,” said Isabella from Rockville.
Another great report, Valerie!
