Altrusa International of Montgomery County collected over 2,000 undergarments for homeless men and women in the County. The Altrusa International is part of a network of 358 community service clubs spread across the world.
Jeanette Wolfe is the Chair of the community service committee for Altrusa International of Montgomery County.
“Our goal was to provide over 500 pairs of underwear to Shepherd’s Table ,which would meet their needs for approximately four months. We came up with the project title ‘Undies 500+ for Shepherd’s Table,” Wolfe said.
The ‘Undies 500+’ collection began in September 2015 and ended on January 31. Altrusa International collected $3,065 in donations from members of the community and businesses to support the initiative. On Thursday, Altrusa will donate 2,165 pairs of men’s and women’s underwear, which exceeds the original goal of 500. More than 200 t-shirts and ten sets of men’s thermal underwear will also be donated to Shepard’s Table in Silver Spring.
“We’re just a small group making a difference in our community,” said Wolfe.
