Allure of the Washington Monument

For nearly 30 years in my daily commutes to and from L’Enfant Plaza the Washington Monument represented the city for me. First it is a compass, next an obelisk that speaks of Egyptian culture brought forth to the new world by the Romans and lastly a big time attraction – of buses and hordes of tourists. I recall the last time it was sheathed in scaffolding and I never really caught up with producing a good photo representation. So now through most of 2014 I will get a chance to capture this monument from different angles in the city as it is being repaired from the 2011 Virginia earthquake damage.

Here are a few photos taken this past Saturday night (July 13) done in HDR processing taken from the Lincoln Memorial grounds. PS: make it a point to always look behind you as you face the subject – there is a lot going on around you as evidence in photos taken of tourists.

  • "Me" and "Us" cellphone-fotogs taking snaps as the sun sets behind the Lincoln Memorial
