Adventist HealthCare Recognizes Local “Flu Fighters”
Adventist HealthCare and its workplace wellness division, LifeWork Strategies, recognized businesses in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia that are helping to “fight the flu” in their workplace with the third annual Flu Fighter awards. The 27 winners of the 2013 awards were recognized for their efforts to protect the health of their employees and our community.
“We are honored to present the Flu Fighter Award to local businesses that have demonstrated their commitment to a healthy workplace,” said Marta Brito Perez, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer at Adventist HealthCare. “Preventing seasonal flu and complications from the flu in the workplace is one way that we carry out our mission of improving the health of our community.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the best way to prevent the spread of influenza is through an annual vaccination. To be considered for the Flu Fighter award, businesses submitted an application detailing their actions to keep employees healthy. Each business received points based on their policies and practices aimed at protecting their workforce and the community from the flu. All award recipients offered a flu vaccination clinic at their office, while a majority covered the cost of the vaccine for employees. Each award winner also provided resources to employees, such as paid sick leave, hand sanitizer, hand-washing posters and surface cleaner in the workplace to prevent the spread of the flu. Many of the recipients also had a formal workplace policy on sick leave and return to work specific to the flu virus.LifeWork Strategies honored the flu fighter winners today at their Executive Breakfast education event titled “Maximizing Your Employee Wellness Program under the Affordable Care Act.”
