Saturday Lane Closures on East West Highway

On Saturday, May 10, from approximately 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., several lanes of East West Highway between 16th Street (MD 390) and Colesville Road (US 29) will be closed so crews can hoist roofing materials onto the Lenox Park Apartments.

Real estate management company Forest City Enterprises and its contractor, Rent-A-Crane, Inc., will hoist roofing materials at the Lenox Park Aparments necessitating lane closures and lane shifts along East West Highway (MD 410) in downtown Silver Spring. The company coordinated with the State Highway Administration to perform the work, maintain traffic and ensure the safety or drivers, pedestrians and workers.

Beginning at 5 a.m., a large crane will be placed in front of the Lenox Park apartment building, located at 1400 East West Highway. Weather permitting, all traffic lanes should be open no later than 7 p.m. Saturday night.

To perform the work, the company’s contractor is permitted to close up to three eastbound lanes and one westbound lane on East West Highway. Through lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions of East West Highway at all times. Access to all parking lots, parking garages and businesses will also be maintained. The company’s contractor will use arrow panels, construction barrels, cones and a flagging operation to direct motorists through the work zone. Drivers should plan ahead and add extra travel time.

Residents and travelers are advised that construction equipment can be loud and disruptive. The residential management company and the contractor performing the work ask for your patience as crews work to complete the project. In case of inclement weather, the lane closures and work will take place beginning 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 17.

Sidewalks within the work zone may be closed during the crane operation. Pedestrians will be directed to safe crossings along East-West Highway via construction cones, barrels and fencing. The sidewalks will reopen once the work is complete and it is safe for pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians are strongly urged to avoid walking within the work zone along eastbound East-West Highway.
