Kensington Man Killed in Car Accident

Accident forensicsUPDATED Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred at 2:21 p.m. on Dec. 28 at Maryland Avenue and Great Falls Road in Rockville.

Police said the side-impact collision involved a gray 2004 Toyota Corolla and a silver 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada within the intersection.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Oldsmobile was traveling eastbound on Maryland Avenue with a green traffic signal. Police said the driver of the Toyota was traveling westbound on Maryland Avenue attempting to turn left onto Potomac Valley Road with a green traffic signal. As the Toyota was making the left turn, police said, the Oldsmobile struck the Toyota on the passenger side.

Police said the front passenger in the Toyota, identified as Irwin Percival Bellamy, age 89, of Kensington, Maryland was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Police said the driver of the Toyota was the victim’s son, David Alan Bellamy, age 53, of Hanover, Maryland. According to police, David Bellamy was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the Oldsmobile, Rachel Miller Dawson, age 73, of Potomac, Maryland was not injured and remained on the scene.

Rockville police are alerting residents that Maryland Avenue at Great Falls Road is shut down because of a serious motor vehicle collision and investigation.

At 3:23 p.m. on Dec. 28, police said via an Alert Rockville message that the road will be closed for several hours.

Motorists should attempt to find alternate routes, according to the alert.
