Montgomery County’s Department of Recreation has a lot of activities and programs taking place in September.

September 2: West Coast Swing at Holiday Park Senior Center 7:30 p.m. – 8:25 p.m. Cost is $38 for 8 weeks or $ 32 with HPSI card. Class is for advanced beginners. Call 240.777.4999 for more information.
September 3: Facial Analysis Screening at White Oak Senior Center 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. (Free) Adventist HealthCare will provide a cancer presentation that focuses on decreasing a person’s risk for cancer/skin cancer. For more information, call 240.777.6944.
September 3: End of Summer Luau at Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center noon – 2 p.m. (Free) As the summer is quickly coming to an end, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a luau! Break out the grass skirts and floral t-shirts. Lunch provided by the Nutrition Program. Entertainment is by Northern Virginia Ukulele Society. Pre-registration is required by Monday, August 24. September 4: ActiveMontgomery Registration Party at Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Free) want to learn more about ActiveMontgomery? Need help registering? September 7: Bethesda, Germantown, Western County, Wheaton/Glenmont and MLK outdoor aquatic facilities will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Olney Indoor Swim Center will be open normal hours; all other indoor aquatic facilities, as well as the Long Branch and Upper County outdoor pools, will be closed. Administrative offices, senior centers and community recreation centers are closed.
September 8: Creative Writing Class at Damascus Senior Center 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Beth will lead this class of creative writers. The class may have a small fee to cover materials. Call 240.777.6995 for more information.

September 16: Song Circle at Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. (Free) Co-sponsored by Carpe Diem Arts and The Folklore Society of Greater Washington, the monthly song circle is about the joy of singing, not about talent. Come for informal group singing or just to listen, but do come to enjoy delightful songs! Words will be provided; no need to read music.
