MoCo Parks & Rec Receive Award (Video)

Montgomery County Recreation and Montgomery Parks, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, recently received the Project Excellence Award from the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP) for their Vision 2030 Strategic Plan and the 2012 Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Plan. The prestigious award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in the field of outdoor recreation research, planning, management and policy. The award was presented earlier this month by the SORP board of directors at its annual National Outdoor Recreation Conference in Traverse City, MI.

“Our 2030 Strategic Plan provides the vision, goals and objectives that will shape the parks and recreation systems for years to come. We are extremely proud to receive the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals’ Project Excellence Award. This award reflects the dedicated efforts of Montgomery County Recreation and Montgomery Parks working together to provide high-quality recreation and leisure services, activities, facilities and natural resources,” said Recreation Director Gabriel Albornoz

The Vision 2030 Strategic Plan and the 2012 PROS Plan include an innovative, long-term vision and a practical, analysis-based implementation component to guide the two agencies in meeting the needs of Montgomery County, one of the fastest growing communities in the country. The planning process was one of problem-solving, innovation, creativity and collaborative team planning.

Montgomery County Recreation and Montgomery Parks are two distinct agencies that manage different aspects of recreation and leisure activities, facilities, parks and stewardship of natural resources. Each agency shares the goal of increasing livability in Montgomery County by promoting healthier lifestyles and protecting natural resources.
