Cancer Benefit Reminds Me to Treasure Life (Photos)
Covering the Relay for Life of Rockville event, on June 1, was a touching experience. I actually ran into a good friend of mine and didn’t know that he lost a cousin to cancer. Attending events like the one at Tilden Middle School serves as a reminder that life is precious.
I interviewed the chair, Nancy Coulter, who helped to organize the annual event.
In her interview with MyMCMedia, she talked about how important it is to pay attention to any cancer and the affects it has on family. Her father was diagnosed with cancer and it moved her family to become one of the largest fundraising teams in the Rockville region. For every dollar raised, $0.72 goes to finding a cure. A large sum of the money is stays in the Rockville community, according to Coulter.
Relay for Life of Rockville has raised about $79,970 towards their goal of $85,000 this year.
Note: When this article was originally written on June 6, Relay For Life of Rockville raised about $60,000 in funds. The organization has raised more money since then and the article reflects that.
Tamika, you are wonderful!!!! Thank you to you and the MC Media Team for coming out to cover our Relay Event!!!! We truly appreciate your support!!!!
