Mythical Match-Up Challenge – Week 6
Team records are tightening up in both the MoCo and METRO Leagues as all teams are well into actual division play. Good Counsel leads both the MoCo and METRO leagues but in the later finds itself in a 3-way tie with Quince Orchard and Stone Bridge. Over in the MoCo League Seneca Valley and Churchill are tied in second place with QO in third.
There are only 2 more weeks of actual play and Challenge Match-Ups so the total Mythical Points looks to be what will be the deciding factor to determine standings and Challenge winners. BYE weeks do play havoc with the Mythical points – especially for Good Counsel and QO who play in both Match Up leagues. I may have to re-evaluate the decision points to determine champions should there be a large discrepancy between top teams.
Looking forward to Week 6 Match-Ups – the schedule for challenge contests are as follows:
MoCo League
Good Counsel versus Northwest
Bullis Prep versus Sherwood
Quince Orchard versus Churchill
Seneca Valley has a BYE week
METRO League
Friendship versus Stone Bridge
Quince Orchard versus Good Counsel
Wise versus Westfield
Old Mill has a BYE week
In actual conference play for those MoCo challenge teams – Seneca Valley who has a BYE in Challenge play pairs off against Gaithersburg; Einstein at Northwest; Bullis plays at St. Albans; Churchill is at Springbrook; Paint Branch is at Sherwood; QO hosts Clarksburg; and Good Counsel faces St. John’s in NW DC.
Over in the Metro League challenge teams will have the following actual play – Friendship Collegiate plays at North Point; McLean is at Stone Bridge; Oakton is at Westfield; Laurel is at Wise; with QO’s and GC’s schedule as stated above in the MoCo league line up. Old Mill plays Southern on Thursday night.
Looking over the actual play – I predict the big team performance winners for Week 6 in the MoCo League will be Seneca Valley and QO with two in-county opponents who are working through rebuilding years. In the METRO league top performance teams should be Stone Bridge with the weaker in-conference (Liberty) opponent of McLean who is 2-2 in county play. As a side note Stone Bridge is in 3-way tie in VA’s AAA Liberty conference with Madison and Fairfax – so this is a big game for Stone Bridge to keep pace with the other conference leaders.
Last week I was watching the next two upcoming QO conference opponents at the Clarksburg and Magruder game won by Clarksburg 47 -6. Included in this blog are photos of sophomore standout #22 Tavis Holland who rushed for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns in 3 carries. He is certainly a bright offensive standout for this team.
