About 75 firefighters responded to the Monterey Apartments in North Bethesda after an HVAC unit was “fully engulfed” on the roof, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

MCFRS was dispatched to 5901 Montrose Road just before noon Tuesday. Workers were on the roof of the 15-story building doing HVAC work, Piringer wrote on Twitter. After arriving, firefighters found an air handler “fully engulfed.”

At around 12:45 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Alan Butsch said the fire was knocked down and there were no injuries.
