Swimming Pools Can Now Operate at 50% Capacity
Montgomery County has relaxed its COVID-19-related swimming restrictions. As of April 14, pools can be operated at 50% capacity. Also, as of April 1, two swimmers have been allowed in each lane.
The number of swimmers permitted is determined by the size of the facility. Half of total occupancy is permitted, and Councilmember Hans Riemer tweeted that he hopes by this summer, the county pools will be open at full capacity.
The county has specific rules to determine maximum capacity in the enclosed pool area, which includes the deck and surrounding area.
Baby pools, spas, hot tubs and spray pads remain closed.
Good news. Constituents have asked why swimming pool restrictions are more strict now than last summer. I followed up; guidance will be revised to allow 50% capacity, rather than less than 50%. Good for now, by summer I hope pools will be 100%. TBD.
