Registration Still Open for Last Day of 2021 Montgomery County History Conference

Tickets for the 2021 Montgomery County History Conference are still available for Saturday, the last day of the events.

See the schedule overview here. Discussions include “A Tangled Web: Researching the Enslaved in Maryland” and “Displacement and Erasure: Gentrifying Travilah Road.”

Bruce Adams, former Montgomery County Council President who founded the Bethesda Community Baseball Club in 1998, will host a virtual discussion about the county’s Black history surrounding baseball. The discussion, called “In Search of the Ballfields of Montgomery’s Black Communities,” will be held from 1:45-3 p.m. Baseball was “the center of civic life” along with churches and schools for many Black communities in the county during the first half of the 20th century, according to the event’s description. The talk will explore the story behind “town teams” among Black communities and their importance “during the decades when Negro League baseball was thriving across the country from the 1920s through the early 1960s.”

Residents can register for the conference here; tickets range from $50-$75. Residents can also enter the promo code “single” to receive a $10 single-session ticket.
