Madaleno Unanimously Chosen County Chief Administrative Officer

Richard Madaleno, who has worked in local and state government and has been Acting Chief Adminstrative Officer for the past six weeks, unanimously was chosen by the county council Tuesday to the position.

Upon receiving unanimous support from the nine-member council, Madaleno said, “I look forward to working with you all. I appreciate your support.”

He was named by County Executive Marc Elrich to the position following the resignation of Andrew Kleine, who was fined $5,000 after admitting he violated county ethics when he promoted his book and maintained relationships with two businesses while serving as a county employee.

Madaleno, a lifelong county resident, said during questioning by councilmembers last week that he would rebuild trust by ensuring the county does what it says it will, including paving potholes. He vowed to improve communications between Elrich and the council and said he wouldn’t spring any surprise legislation on them without discussing it first.

Madaleno, 55, previously served the 18th District in both the Senate and House of Delegates.
