Delaney Does Not Qualify for September Presidential Debate
Former Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) of Potomac has failed to qualify for the third round of Democratic presidential debates.
To qualify for the debate, candidates needed to have 130,000 unique campaign donors and they needed to reach at least 2% in four qualifying polls approved by the Democratic National Committee. Delaney has reached neither. RealClearPolitics estimates that Delaney currently has a national polling average of 0.1%.
ABC News and Univision are hosting the debate, scheduled for Sept. 12. It will feature the following 10 candidates:
- Former Vice President Joe Biden
- Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts
- Sen. Kamala Harris of California
- Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana
- Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey
- Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
- Tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang
- Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro
- Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas
On Monday morning, Delaney appeared on CNN and confirmed he’s staying in the race, despite not qualifying for the September debate.

Delaney told CNN’s Jim Sciutto, “The only poll that really matters to me is the Iowa Caucus in many ways and that’s still about six months away, and I think in many ways this election is just getting started.”
