Where to Celebrate Fourth of July Across the County
Independence Day celebrations start a bit early in Montgomery County with Gaithersburg’s SummerFest on Saturday, June 29. Then residents have numerous opportunities for celebration on Thursday, July 4th with four fireworks displays, three parades and a 5K run.
Here’s a rundown of the celebrations:
Fireworks Displays
Gaithersburg Summerfest and Fireworks
Celebrate Fourth of July a couple days early with live music, food, and many activities for kids at the Summit Hall Farm at Bohrer Park. Then, following the firework show, enjoy the SummerGlo After Party from 10 to 11:30 p.m.

If there is any cancellation due to weather, SummerFest activities will be moved inside the Activity Center at Bohrer Park that same day, and the fireworks will be rescheduled for Sunday, June 30.
Start off the night with live music, food from onsite vendors, and end the night watching fireworks. There will be free parking onsite.

If there is any cancellation due to weather, the fireworks will be rescheduled for Friday, July 5.
Celebrate the Fourth at Albert Einstein High School with live entertainment, onsite food vendors, and a firework show at the end. Only handicapped parking is available at the school. General parking is available at Westfield Wheaton. Shuttle buses will run between Westfield Wheaton and the school from 6 p.m. until one hour after the fireworks display ends.

Poolesville Fourth of July Family Fireworks
Enjoy an evening of live music, food and fireworks on the Polo Grounds off Hughes Road presented by the Town of Poolesville and Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department. Gates open at 5 p.m., parking is $5 per car. The band Back to the Beach will perform live at 6 p.m.
Purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to press the button to start the fireworks show.

Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration
Start off the night with live music from local band The Nighthawks. Residents will be greeted by Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton and the Rockville City Council and sing the National Anthem together. Afterwards, fireworks will take place at an ample viewing space.
Free parking is available in lots along Shady Grove Road, Gaither Road and Piccard Drive. There is no parking available in the King Farm neighborhood.

Parades
Takoma Park 130th Independence Day Celebration
Takoma Park will not have a fireworks show this year due to construction at Takoma Park Middle School. However, the Fourth of July parade and celebration will still take place for residents to enjoy all day long until the night ends.
10 a.m. – The two-hour parade will start its route at the intersection of Carroll and Ethan Allen Avenues and ends at Ritchie Avenue.
7 p.m. – The evening celebration begins in front of the Takoma Park Community Center with performances by MO’Fire, the AcroAirs and the Takoma Park Community Bandl. Enjoy food, kid’s activities, and live music. Purchase raffle tickets to enter to win one of the 12 prizes.

Location of Parade: The parade begins at the intersection of Carroll and Ethan Allen Avenues and ends at Ritchie Avenue.

Town of Chevy Chase Independence Day Parade and Picnic
Town members are invited to decorate bikes, scooters, wagons and baby carriages and then parade through the neighborhood led by the Dixie Land Trio. Following the parade, residents are invited to a town picnic and reading of the Declaration of Independence starting at 12:30 p.m.

Kensington’s 24th Annual Fourth of July Bike Parade
The town of Kensington is celebrating Independence Day by cycling down its streets, calling all kids and “those young at heart” to join with decorated bikes, scooters, wagons or strollers.
At 9:45 a.m., those attending the parade will begin to line up along St. Paul Street between Plyers Mill Road and Oberon Street.

And One More Event
18th Annual Autism Speaks 5k/1 Mile Walk
The National Capital Area Chapter of Autism Speaks will hold the a 5K run and family-friendly 1-mile walk through a Potomac neighborhood. Proceeds from the 18th annual race will support Autism Speaks’ mission to promote solutions across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for individuals with autism and their families. Registration is required.
