Jeff Dwyer Benefit Concert: This concert benefits The After Dark Fund, a non-profit to help musicians who fall on hard times as well as promote local music with funds distributed to musicians to assist them with a range of expenses including medical bills, lost or stolen equipment and other hardships.  Friday, May 17 at 8 p.m. Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club, 7719 Wisconsin Ave.  Doors open at 6 p.m. For more information, click here. $60-$75.

Shrek The Musical Jr.: KAT-2nd Stage’s performance is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film about Shrek, the ogre, on an adventure to rescue a princess. Recommended for ages 7 and up. Gaithersburg Book Festival:  Gaithersburg’s popular book festival features authors, workshops for aspiring writers, exhibits, a Children’s Village, onsite sales of new and used books, food, drink, ice cream and so much more. Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of Gaithersburg City Hall, 31 South Summit Avenue. BSO Brahms Violin Concerto: The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Jonathan Carney performs Brahms Violin Concerto. Conductor Peter Oundjian leads the Orchestra in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11, “The Year 1905.” Saturday, May 18 at 8 p.m. The Music Center at Strathmore. Click here for more information. $10-$90.

Oslo:  Directed by Ryan Rilette this play by J.T. Rogers tells the story of the Oslo Peace Accords between Israelis and Palestinians that took place in 1993. Mary Stuart: Based on the play by Friedrich Schiller, the story is set in the 16th Century. Queen Elizabeth I must decide whether to put her cousin, Mary Queen of Scots to death. Runs through June 9 at Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Road. For more information, click here. $69-$74.

Taste the World in Fenton Village: Enjoy food from across the globe, while supporting locally-owned, small businesses and exploring the Fenton Village neighborhood in Silver Spring. More than 30 restaurants representing countries from five different continents will offer appetizers or small tasting plates at a cost of $3 to 5 apiece. Sunday, Mary 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. Fenton Village is located several blocks south of downtown Silver Spring between Wayne, Georgia and Sligo Avenues and Fenton Street.
