Two Women Hurt in Three-Car Wreck on Georgia Avenue

A woman faces life-threatening injuries after her minivan caught fire in a three-car crash Tuesday night, a Montgomery County police statement said.

Police said the woman, driving a 1999 Ford Windstar and a 2018 Honda Accord were stopped a traffic signal on northbound Georgia Avenue at Bel Pre Road.

For reasons still under investigation, a northbound 2018 Honda CRV struck the two stopped cars. As a result of that collision, the Ford Windstar caught fire, police said.

A Wheaton police district officer who was conducting a traffic stop in the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue near Bel Pre Road heard the collision and saw the Windstar on fire, police said.

The officer used a fire extinguisher from his police car to extinguish the fire, police said. The officer then removed the adult female driver from her vehicle. Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene and transported her to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The adult female driver of the Honda Accord and an adult male passenger were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The adult female driver of the Honda CRV was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.

This collision investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
