Senior Forum Set for Oct. 19 at Twinbrook Recreation Center in Rockville

Montgomery County Councilmember Sidney Katz is hosting a Senior Forum on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Twinbrook Recreation Center located at 12900 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville.

The forum will focus on four major areas: avoiding senior scams, fire prevention and safety, public safety in the senior community and spotting elder abuse. It will be accompanied by an informational resource fair showcasing a wide range of senior service providers.

The Senior Forum and Resource Fair are free and open to the public. The resource fair opens at 9:30 a.m. The tables will close when the speakers begin at 10 a.m. – their presentations will continue until 11:30 a.m. Attendees may continue to visit with the resource fair providers until 12:15 p.m.

The formal program begins at 10 a.m. and includes presentations on spotting elderly abuse, avoiding senior scams, fire prevention and safety, and public safety in the senior community. Speakers include the State’s Attorney for Montgomery County, John McCarthy, the Director of Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection, Eric Friedman, the Senior Outreach Program Manager for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Jim Resnick and Montgomery County Police Community Services Officer, Dana Stroman.

The resource fair will include representatives from community-serving organizations with information and materials for forum attendees. Organizations confirmed to be in attendance include:
