Bethesda’s Katie Ledecky Wins Five Medals at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

Keeping Up with Katie: The latest news and information about Olympic champion swimmer and Montgomery County’s own Katie Ledecky.

After her final race at the Pan Pacific swimming championships held in Tokyo, Katie Ledecky increased her medal count by five. She won three gold medals in the individual 400-, 800- and 1,500-meter freestyle races, a bronze in the 200-meter freestyle and a silver with the United State’s 4×200 relay team.

Ledecky swam in five events and won a medal in all five events.

Sunday, she won the women’s 1,500-meter freestyle race with a time of 15:38:97.

Ledecky successfully defended her title in the 400-meter freestyle Saturday, with a time of 3:58:50.

Friday, Ledecky competed with the United State’s women team in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. The team came in second to the Australian team with a time of 7:44:37.

Thursday, Ledecky won gold in the women’s 800-meter freestyle race, breaking her own meet record, with a time of  8:09.13. She also won bronze in the 200-meter freestyle event with a time of 1:55:15, her first bronze medal in international competition.

Ledecky adds nine Pan Pacs medals (four from 2014) to her six Olympic medals.

The Pan Pacs are held two years after the Olympics and include the swimming federations from Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States.
