Truck Driver Dies at Hyattstown Weigh Station

A tractor-trailer driver from Salisbury died Friday morning at the weigh station in Montgomery County when his truck rolled over him, a Maryland State Police statement said.

About 11:30 a.m., a trooper with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division placed the victim’s tractor-trailer out of service for brake violations. The trooper’s action took place at the Hyattstown weigh station on the northbound side of I-270. The vehicle was placed in the out-of-service lot at the facility.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the driver — James Leigh Hobbs, 58 — was trying to make the necessary brake adjustments but had failed to engage the parking brake on the vehicle, police said.

As the driver was under the truck, it rolled back and over the driver, police said. The driver was declared dead at the scene.

No one else was injured. Police said the incident remains under investigation.

His middle was Leigh, not Lee. The world lost a great man today
