Here are some of our picks for arts and entertainment this weekend:

Art:

  • Strathmore Mansion’s two exhibits, Colored Pencil Society of America and Blush, are on display from June 10 through August 6.
  • Bethesda’s Gallery B’s July exhibit, Saffron and Tea, opens Wednesday and features mixed media paintings by Saya Behman. A public reception will be held Friday, July 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • BlackRock Center for the Arts has two watercolor exhibits closing this weekend. Opening Saturday, July 22 are two new solo exhibitions, The Shape of Memories by Lori Anne Boocks in the Terrace Gallery and New and Recent Sculptures by Evan Reed in the Kay Gallery. Meet Reed and Boocks at the opening reception Saturday, July 22 from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • The “Point of View” exhibit at the Arts Barn Gallery is on display now through August 7.  The exhibit features photography by Karen Cohen, Shanelle Jacobs, Michael Kuchinsky, Thomas Marchessault, Marleen Van den Neste, and Marc Weinberg. A public reception is scheduled for Thursday, July 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Kentlands Mansion’s Countryside Artisans Create exhibit includes the artwork of Bev Thoms, Brenda Kidera, Claire Howard, Cynthia Jennings, Dalis Davidson, Jennifer Hamilton, Kristen Morrison, Lori Baker, Michael Holdahl, Orlando Morales, Penny McCrea, Susan Due Pearcy, and Tina Thieme Brown. The exhibit opens Friday, July 14 and runs through September 1. The opening reception takes place Thursday, July 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Meet the artists at a reception on Sunday, July 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. The exhibit titled NOMA at Bohrer Park is a mixed media exhibit featuring artwork from the NOrth MArket (NOMA) Gallery located in Frederick.
  • The Maryland Federation of Art presents Off the Wall at Waverly Street Gallery in Bethesda. This annual exhibit of 3-D sculpture features work by artists from the US, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico. The opening reception is Friday, July 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. Awards presented at 7 p.m.
  • Artists & Makers Studios 1 and 2 in Rockville host five exhibits now through July 27.
  • An exhibit featuring drawing and sculpture-based works by artists Susan Hostetler, Dalya Luttwak, and Beverly Ress titled “A Bird’s-Eye View” is on display at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery in the Silver Spring Civic Building now through August 18.

Music:

Theater:

  • Olney Theatre’s production of My Fair Lady has been extended through August 6.
  • Gaithersburg Arts Barn presents Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder now through 23.
  • Rockville Musical Theatre’s presents Monty Python’s Spamalot at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville. The musical continues through Sunday, July 23.
  • Silver Spring Stage’s production of the farce One Man, Two Guvnors continues through through July 29. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and two Sunday matinees on July 23 and 29.
  • Rockville’s Wine and Improv Series returns Friday, July 14  at the Glenview Mansion Cottage in Rockville. The series includes a glass of wine and a workshop on improvisational theater led by Stephanie Phelan. Please note, tickets must be purchased in advance.
  • The Quotidian Theatre Company presents Night Seasons at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. from July 14 through August 13.
  • The Puppet Co. presents The Wizard of Oz now through July 23 at the their theater in Glen Echo Park.
  • Imagination Stage’s production of Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll Adventure runs through August 13 in Bethesda.
  • Adventure Theatre’s production of Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook runs through August 14.
  • Coming up:
    • Montgomery College’s Summer Dinner Theatre presents Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at the Rockville Campus July 21, 22, 23, 28,29, and 30.
    • Olney Theatre’s one-man play Thurgood based on the life of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall opens July 19.
