Seahawks Swim Fast, Otters Leave them in Bubbles
The Cedarbrook Seahawks traveled to Quince Orchard for a splash clash between these two B Division Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) teams. Both are swimming it out for ranking points in the Division with Seahawks with a narrow lead over the QO Otters. The Otters secured a 5th place position with a 439 to 353 point total over the Seahawks. Future postings and swim times can be found on the MCSL site or on the MeetMobile App. It is the 4th week in a 5 week MCSL season and with only one division meet left many swimmers were positioning themselves for All-Star times and of course getting qualified for the Long Course Meet at Rockville Montgomery Swim Club (RMSC), in Rockville on July 12th.
Saturday, July 8th was one of those picture perfect summer swim days when the sky and water is blue and swimmers wakes shimmered in the late morning sun. Going back to where it all began for me, the camera and sports coverage is always a walk down memory lane. It all comes rushing back as the parents, volunteer timers, grandparents, coaches and of course the youth of all ages look forward to the competition.
And what a competition it was.
Both teams had their strengths. The Otters’ older boys 13 and above captured most of all the relays and lane events, breast, back and butterfly. While the Seahawks’ girls had a great showing with the strength in similar stroke styles and the relays. Mid meet breaks always feature the chants and good natured taunting of their opponents and I found it a good time to try out a few features on my Fujifilm X-T2 camera. Using the advanced filtering systems in the Fuji to create black and white images with specific filters – blue and green. I thought that weather and the venue as well as the team colors helped contribute to these images.
As the season winds down with one more “A” Meet left for all MCSL teams it will lead up to the finales at the end of the month that include the Long Course Relay and of the All-Star meets (Relay’s and Individuals) which are my favorites to photograph. Enjoy the photos with a few more events coming up in the next few weeks.
