Weekend Planner, June 23 – June 25 (VIDEO)

Celebrate the history of Montgomery County this weekend at the annual Heritage Days Celebration on June 24 and June 25. This unique, countywide festival, hosted by Heritage Montgomery, provides visitors the opportunity to explore more than 40 parks, museums, and historic sites all across the county. Special events are planned for many of the sites, including history exhibits, walking tours, children’s games and crafts, live music, and more. Visit HeritageMontgomery.org for a detailed guide/map to all participating sites. Here are some of our picks for arts and entertainment this weekend:

Art:

  • Strathmore Mansion’s two exhibits, Colored Pencil Society of America and Blush, are on display from June 10 through August 6.  A curator guided tour of the two exhibitions takes place Saturday, June 24.
  • The Rockville Art League Juried Members’ Show is on exhibit at Glenview Mansion from now through Wednesday, June 28.
  • Gallery B‘s June exhibit features work by the Bethesda Painting Awards finalists. The exhibit is on display from now through July 1. The July exhibit, Saffron and Tea, features mixed media paintings by Saya Behman. A public reception will be held Friday, July 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • BlackRock Center for the Arts has two watercolor exhibits on display now through mid-July. The Terrace Gallery exhibit, Beyond Limits, features the work of artist David Daniels from now through July 14. A public reception will be held Sunday, June 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition is on display in the Kay Gallery from now through July 15 and is a juried exhibit sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society. A public reception and awards presentation will be held Sunday, June 25 from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • The Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association presents a collection of multimedia works at Kentlands Mansion through July 7. This is a juried exhibition.
  • The “Modern Surrealists” exhibit is on display at the Arts Barn Gallery now through July 4 and features the works of Marco Cuba-Ricsi, John Duke and Thomas Germer.
  • Waverly Street Gallery’s latest exhibit, Private Moments, is on display now through July 1.
  • The Glen Echo Park Partnership operates three galleries with ongoing art exhibits. Find more information about their schedule by visiting the website, here. During the months of May through September, Glen Echo hosts Art Walk on the first Friday of the month with open studios and demonstrations throughout the park. Each month the event features different activities.

Music:

  • Bethesda Blues & Jazz present The Soul Crackers Friday, June 23 at 6 p.m.
  • Washington, DC’s Let it Flow performs at AMP by Strathmore Friday, June 23 at 8 p.m.
  • The Rio Summer Concert Series continue Friday and Saturday night from 6 to 9 p.m. Jesse Garon performs a tribute to Elvis June 23 and Bobby & The Believers perform June 24
  • Unity Reggae performs as part of the Friday Night Live Concert Series at Rockville Town Square Friday, June 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.
  • The Rockville Brass Band and Brass of the Potomac presents “Brass Around the World” at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville Saturday June 24 at 7 p.m.
  • Soulful R&B singer songwriter Tyra Levone features several songs from her new album ‘Testimony…A Soul Set Free’ at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Saturday, June 24 at 7 p.m.
  • Nick Colionne performs at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Sunday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Festivals and Family:

  • Zumba in the Park features an hour of high energy fun at the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Gaithersburg at 7 p.m. Friday evenings now through August 25. All ages are welcome.
  • Check out our Guide to 2017’s Summer Festivals for great family fun. The Sandy Spring Community Day takes place Saturday, June 24 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • The Montgomery Countryside Alliance fundraising festival Field & Fiddle includes live music, Jokgu the piano playing chicken from Germantown, vaulting demonstration, and more Saturday, June 24 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Two Farms in Boyds.
  • Montgomery Parks hosts numerous family friendly events and festivals during the summer months. For more information, visit their website, here.
