Sunday is Father’s Day and we found a few ways to celebrate in case you can use a few ideas. Search Open Table for a list of places in the county to treat Dad to brunch or dinner. Participate in the 4th Annual Fit Fathers Day Celebration to join in group exercise, fitness games, healthy snacks, yoga, and music hosted by Fit Fathers at the Silver Spring Civic Center. Treat Dad to a round of miniature golf at the Bohrer Park course in Gaithersburg – Dad’s play free with a paid customer. Build and fly a mini-kite at the Father’s Day Kite Flight at Tudor Place in Northwest, DC. We wish all Dads a wonderful Father’s Day!

Silver Spring hosts the Blues Festival Saturday, June 17 with non-stop entertainment from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on two stages. The Library Stage features acoustic music from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at the Silver Spring Library. The Fountain Stage at Ellsworth Drive kicks off at 3 p.m. with the School of Rock.

Art:

  • Strathmore Mansion’s two exhibits, Colored Pencil Society of America and Blush, are on display from June 10 through August 6.
  • The Rockville Art League Juried Members’ Show is on exhibit at Glenview Mansion from now through June 28.
  • Gallery B‘s June exhibit features work by the Bethesda Painting Awards finalists. The exhibit is on display from now through July 1.
  • Two watercolor exhibits open at BlackRock Center for the Arts Saturday. The Terrace Gallery exhibit, Beyond Limits, features the work of artist David Daniels from June 17 through July 14. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition is on display in the Kay Gallery from June 17 through July 15 and is a juried exhibit sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society.
  • The Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association presents a collection of multimedia works at Kentlands Mansion through July 7. This is a juried exhibition.
  • The “Modern Surrealists” exhibit is on display at the Arts Barn Gallery now through July 4 and features the works of Marco Cuba-Ricsi, John Duke and Thomas Germer.
  • Waverly Street Gallery’s latest exhibit, Private Moments, is on display now through July 1.
  • The Glen Echo Park Partnership operates three galleries with ongoing art exhibits. Find more information about their schedule by visiting the website, here. During the months of May through September, Glen Echo hosts Art Walk on the first Friday of the month with open studios and demonstrations throughout the park. Each month the event features different activities.

Music:

  • Strathmore’s final family jazz session of the season focuses on legendary singer Ella Fitzgerald and takes place Saturday, June 17. The session is designed for 3 to 8-year-olds.
  • Friday is dance night at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club with a Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire.
  • Hot Peas N’ Butter perform at AMP by Strathmore’s kids pajama jam party for children and their families Sunday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m.
  • AMP by Strathmore presents Women in Blues Saturday, June 17 at 8 p.m. The concert features seven female blues singers including Deletta Gillespie, Sandra Dean, Angela Hill, Gayle Harrod, Hayley Fahey, Liz Springer, and Mama Moon.
  • The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, led by Marin Alsop and featuring violinist Gil Shaham, perform the Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony at Strathmore Saturday, June 17.
  • Bethesda Blues & Jazz’s Father’s Day Brunch Sunday features the soulful sounds of vocalist Lenny Williams.

Festivals and Family:

  • Zumba in the Park features an hour of high energy fun at the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Gaithersburg at 7 p.m. Friday evenings now through August 25. All ages are welcome.
  • BlackRock’s Community Art Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Germantown. The event features hands-on art making activities using water-based media, watercolor painting demonstrations and tours of both art exhibits on display. This is free and open to all ages.   • Montgomery Parks hosts numerous family friendly events and festivals during the summer months. For more information, visit their website, here.
