Bill 16-17 was introduced on May 16 and a public hearing is tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on June 20th. According to background information, the bill would exempt hotel pools from having a lifeguard on duty as long as warning signs are posted and an emergency alert system is in place.
After the public hearing, the bill moves on to a Council committee for review.
According to a May 9th memo from Katz, nearby jurisdictions, including Ocean City, that allow hotel guests to swim at their own risk have reported no increase in pool-related injuries.
