UPDATED: NWS Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Montgomery County

UPDATED: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Montgomery County until 2 p.m.

According to the NWS warning, winds up to 60 mph may blow down limbs and trees.

UPDATED: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Montgomery County until 1:45 p.m for southern and central Montgomery County.

According to the NWS warning, strong winds may blow down limbs, trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible.

Officials say residents should not approach downed utility lines as wires may still be energized. Call 9-1-1 to report downed wires.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Montgomery County effective from now through 5 p.m.

Damaging winds and hail are the primary threats, according the the NWS watch. Wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible; severe thunderstorms are capable of producing tornadoes.

The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay informed and be prepared to take cover if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued.
