Gaithersburg Man Charged with Attempted Murder (PHOTO)
Montgomery County Police have charged Johnathan Hemming, age 52 of Spring Street in Gaithersburg, with two counts of attempted second-degree-murder, assault, firearm-related offenses, and drug offenses.
Police said officers began surveillance on Hemming for drug-related charges on May 18th. At 3:30 p.m., officers approached a vehicle and told Hemming he was under arrest. Hemming resisted arrest and became combative with officers, and reached in the center compartment area of the car to grab a handmade gun, police said.
Police said a taser was used on Hemming after he pointed the gun at officers.
Officers determined that the homemade handgun Hemming attempted to use was capable of firing shotgun rounds. Officers also found a second homemade handgun in Hemming’s pants pocket along with shotgun shells and ammunition for a handgun, police said.
Hemming is currently being held without bond.
