Friday, October 30
- The 17th Annual Animation Show of Shows continues at AFI Silver Theatre until Oct. 29. Times today at 1, 3 and 7:15 p.m.
- Early Voting continues today in Takoma Park from 2 to 8 p.m. at the New Hampshire Avenue Recreation Center.
- The popular Field of Screams features four haunts in Olney. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.
- The Planning Department is hosting a book launch party for Montgomery Modern which captures modernist architecture in the county. The event is held at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda and starts at 7 p.m. Books will be available to purchase; the author Claire Lise Kelly will be at the event.
- Bring the family to the Monster Mash Halloween Dance at the Twinbrook Community Center in Rockville at 7 p.m. to celebrate the season.
- Markoff’s Haunted Forest opens the gates at 7 p.m. Online ticket purchases is recommended. The forest features two trails and numerous events from zip-lines to zombie hunts.
- The AFI Halloween on Screen series is screening “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror” at the AFI Silver Theatre at 7 and 9:30 p.m.
- Take a scary walk through the wilderness at the Murkwood Haunted Forest in Damascus. But be prepared for some scares! Opens at 7 p.m.
- Rockville Musical Theatre’s production of <em>Footloose</em> opens at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville at 8 p.m.
- Are you a murder mystery fan? Here is a chance to participate in an interactive theater performance at the Polter-Heist murder mystery comedy at Kentlands Mansion in Gaithersburg at 8 p.m. Please note,registration is full.
- Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club “Halloween Howl” dance night. Come in costume to participate in the dance and costume contest and enjoy all the classic Halloween hits.
Enjoy jazz at AMP by Strathmore as JazzReach’s Metta Quintet performs at 8 p.m.in North Bethesda.
Saturday, October 31
- Enjoy a hay ride, straw maze, corn hole game and much more at the Butler’s Orchard Pumpkin Festival in Germantown. Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Early Voting continues today in Takoma Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sligo Creek Park.
- Final day of early voting in Gaithersburg takes place from noon to 5 p.m. at City Hall.
- The county animal adoption center is offering half-price adoption fees today and tomorrow for all dogs and cats with black or orange in their coat. The center is open from noon to 5 p.m. and is located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.
- Glen Echo Park’s Fall Frolic is back with family activities including pumpkin decorating, trick-or-treating, costume parade and more from 1 to 4 p.m.
- Potomac Library is hosting “In Search of Ghosts” at 1 p.m. Authors Karen Yaffe Lottes and Dorothy Pugh share tales of the many local ghosts, apparitions and supernatural occurrences in our area included in their book In Search of Maryland Ghost’s Montgomery County.
- Imagination Stage presents When She had Wings at 1:30 and 4 p.m. The 1:30 p.m. performance includes a Halloween Costume Parade following the performance.
- The Rockville Church of God is hosting a Fall Carnival for the community at 3 p.m. Enjoy games, candy, prizes and a bounce house.
- The AFI Halloween on Screen series is screening four Halloween classics today at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring.

- Daylight saving time ends today at 1 a.m. Remember to set your clocks back one hour.
- On November 1, 1864, enslaved people living in Maryland were freed by a new state constitution. The day is known as Maryland Emancipation Day and Montgomery Parks has planned numerous programs including underground Railroad trail hikes, open house at Josiah Henson Park (“Uncle Tom’s Cabin) and more. - The Rockville 10K/5K road race is celebrating its 40th year in 2015. The race starts at 8 a.m. at the King Farm Village Center.
