Police Charge Man With Two Bank Robberies
Montgomery County Police charged a man with two bank robberies.
Police said Tony Linn Smith, 55, of an unconfirmed address, was arrested on July 27 and charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of theft.
The robberies occurred at a SunTrust Bank on July 23 in Silver Spring, and on July 25 at a M&T Bank in Rockville, police said.
According to police, on July 23, at approximately 9:25 a.m., officers responded to an armed robbery at the SunTrust Bank located at 8700 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. The investigation showed that Smith entered the bank; approached a teller and passed a note demanding money. Police said he also implied he had a gun. Smith received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.
Still according to police on July 25, at approximately 10:55 a.m., officers responded to another armed robbery at the M&T Bank located at 51 West Edmonston Drive in Rockville. Police said Smith repeated his actions from the July 23 robbery and after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash; he fled from the bank.
Police identified Smith through bank surveillance video and located the suspect in Silver Spring.
Smith is currently being held without bond.
