Delayed on the Blocks (PHOTOS)

The 12 and under boy swimmers from Tilden Woods and Bethesda were up to the pool edge waiting for the starter to whistle the beginning of this “A” meet. All prelim’s were finished, the national anthem sung and all they needed to hear was the words “swimmers take your mark”. The meet announcer interrupted this calm asking all to leave the pool area and head to your cars – as a rumble of thunder was heard thus causing a 20-minute delay.

Montgomery County Swim League division teams “A” meets were delayed all over the county on Saturday due to the heavy rains and threating weather. Many team meets are postponed until Sunday or even Monday evening. Parents should check with the “A” Reps to find out the new date, time and location for Saturday’s rescheduled meets

Here in Bethesda the 20-minute delay turned into that cancelled meet and swimmers, parents and coaches milled about the swim center on Little Falls Parkway all puzzling about what to do next. This Saturday morning weather delay only meant more time to dedicated to one of those things that makes Montgomery County unique – its summer swim league.
