Embassy of El Salvador Celebrates Peace Agreement in Silver Spring
The Government of El Salvador and guerrillas reached a peace agreement 23 years ago.
On Friday, Feb. 20, the Embassy of El Salvador in the United States along with Montgomery College and Casa De Maryland are scheduled to host a celebration to honor the country’s history, people and legacy at the Cultural Arts Center in Montgomery College.
“The idea is to link El Salvadoreans with their history,” said Ana Guardado, press communication El Salvador consulate.
Ambassador Ruben Zamora, El Salvador representative to the United Nations, is schedule to share his accounts on participating in the process of reaching the peace agreement of 1992 that ended the civil war in El Salvador.
According to Guardado, the event is one of many ways to connect El Salvadorans in the D.C. area.
“We had twelve years of war … The UN was very involved in the negotiation. … [And] big part of the diaspora here is linked or related to the war,” Guardado said.
Local students will also address the challenges El Salvadorans face today.
To attend the event, please call 202.595.7500. Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center is at 7995 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.
