Plans for Resident Amenity Center at Crown
Plans are being finalized for The Retreat, the innovative resident amenity center at Crown. The Retreat will be a hub for entertainment and gathering as well as fitness, wellness and relaxation for homeowners of Crown.
Current plans include a variety of options for residents to live a healthy and active lifestyle such as a 27-foot climbing tower, yoga studio, and fitness center.
In addition, plans call for an extensive outdoor recreational program including a full, 25-meter swimming pool, a bocce ball court, a lighted hard-surface multi-sport court and connections to the extensive trail network and future City Park.
The Retreat will include a number of social gathering places to enhance the community living experience at Crown with an inviting wrap-around porch with an indoor/outdoor stone fireplace, a spacious great room with catering kitchen, an outdoor patio and a rooftop terrace with expansive views of the recreational complex and surrounding community.
Designed by Perkins Eastman architects to reflect Crown’s farm heritage along with the community’s urban and innovative inspiration, The Retreat’s façade features brick, stone, board and batten, and glass elements along with natural stone accents that add to the building’s iconic character.
“We wanted The Retreat to be a standout facility that lives up to the spirit of Crown and the expectations of our residents who understand how unique their community truly is,” said Kris Warner, spokesperson for Crown.
Crown, in the heart of Montgomery County’s science and technology corridor, celebrates innovation. Streets throughout the community are named for innovators, and The Retreat also plans to recognize a visionary, naming its climbing facility after Reinhold Messner, an Italian climber born in 1944. Messner made the first ascent of Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen in 1978. Two years later he made the first solo ascent up a new route on the North Face. He is also the first person to conquer all 14 “eight-thousanders”—the world’s peaks higher than 26,000 feet.
Crown is a community of four distinct neighborhoods, including the mixed-use shopping and dining hub, Downtown Crown. Townhomes are currently being sold in the first residential neighborhood, Crown West. The Retreat is nestled between Crown West and the future Crown East neighborhood, next to a 5-acre park. Construction will on the new facility begin in early 2014 and it is expected to open in late 2014.
When complete, Crown will have up to 2,250 homes and up to 320,000 square feet of commercial and retail space. Crown is a walkable, urban-inspired community on 182 acres adjacent to the Washingtonian Center off Interstate 270. To learn more visit SmartUrbanLiving.com.
