Montgomery County police have arrested Yera Basnueva, age 31, of the 12000 block of Valleywood Drive in Silver Spring, for the attempted rape of a Rockville store employee.

According to police, it happened on Nov. 11 at 9:23 a.m. at the Mr. Smoothie store at 33 Maryland Avenue.

That’s when police said Basnueva began a conversation with the store employee and introduced himself as “Yera.” After approximately thirty minutes, police said, Basnueva asked to use the bathroom.  When he exited the restroom, his pants were down, according to police.

Police said Basnueva then grabbed the victim and pushed her onto the store counter.  According to police, he then attempted to sexually assault the victim and punched her in the face.   Police said the victim punched and kicked Basnueva and he fled from the store.  The event was captured on store surveillance, according to police.

Detectives developed Basnueva as a suspect and arrested him last night (Nov. 11) in the area of his residence.  Police said Basnueva was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with attempted first degree rape and second degree assault.  He is being held without bond.
