Rockville’s Fall Leaf Collection Continues Through Dec. 20

Rockville leaf truck and workers collecting leavesRockville crews will continue to vacuum leaves from neighborhood curbs this November and December, with the second round of collections starting Nov. 18.

Residents should rake leaves into the gutter or immediately adjacent to the pavement if no curb or gutter exists. Leaves can be raked anytime immediately before or during collection week. This avoids the accumulation of leaves near and on the streets, which can lead to fire hazards or grass being damaged if left too long.

The full leaf collection schedule, with a map of the five collection zones in the City of Rockville, is available at www.rockvillemd.gov/leafcollection.

Limbs, rocks and other heavy objects must be removed, and leaves should not be placed in plastic bags. If crews are unable to complete an area during their collection week, they will continue working on the unfinished portion on the following Saturday.

DO: Place leaves at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection dates. Sticks and all other objects must be removed from the leaf piles.

DO NOT: Use any plastic bags.

Rockville also encourages you to use alternative methods for getting rid of leaves to save collection and disposal costs and to help the environment. Some alternatives include mulching or composting your leaves.

After fall collection dates, leaves may still be set out in paper lawn bags or 32-gallon trash cans with yard waste on your collection day. Use the map at www.rockvillemd.gov/leafcollection to determine your specific collection area and schedule.
