Interim Library at Lakeforest Mall to Close Oct. 31 (Video)

gaithersburginterimMontgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) has announced that the Gaithersburg Interim Library at Lakeforest Mall will close Oct. 31 to allow staff to begin moving materials to the newly renovated library at 18330 Montgomery Village Ave.

The move is expected to take approximately eight to ten weeks. A date for the public Grand Opening ceremony will be announced in the near future.

Once the Lakeforest location is closed, and until the Gaithersburg library opens, customers are reminded that they may use other nearby branches, such as Quince Orchard, Germantown or any branch that may be located close to their workplace.

Library officials report that Oct. 10 is the last day for customers to place holds for Gaithersburg Interim Library pickup. Holds placed after that date must be picked up at an alternate location chosen by the customers.

Items borrowed from the interim library may be returned to any MCPL branch. There will be a return book drop available at the new Gaithersburg library site and customers should watch the MCPL website for information on the service.

Customers who have not picked up their holds by Oct. 31 and have not selected an alternate location will be contacted by library staff to designate an alternate pickup site.

The Interim Library was a major success in providing the Gaithersburg area with library services while the renovation of the main library was underway,” said Parker Hamilton, MCPL director. “We appreciate the partnership formed with the management of Lakeforest Mall and thank all who helped get the interim site established nearly three years ago.”

Opened in Dec. 2010, the approximately 3,000 square-foot site contained about 25,000 volumes. In the first nine days of service, customers borrowed more than 3,100 items. Circulation continued to build over the next couple of years with a total of 42,259 items for the last quarter of FY13 (April 2013 – June 2013).
