81-year-old Dies in Wreck on Georgia Avenue

An 81-year-old from Silver Spring died Friday morning after an accident at the Georgia Avenue and Regina Drive, Montgomery County police said.

Stavroula Doulaveris, of the 13400 block of Norden Drive, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  She died from her injuries at the hospital, according to a police statement on the accident.

The preliminary investigation revealed that about 8:15 a.m. Doulaveris, driving a 2009 Honda Accord, tried to make a left turn from westbound Regina Drive onto southbound Georgia Avenue, police said.

For reasons still under investigation, Doulaveris’ car collided with a 2005 Honda Accord driven by Ablavi Julienne Hobuame, 25, of the 2200 block of Greenery Lane in Silver Spring, police said.

As a result of the collision, a Montgomery County Public Schools bus (which was not carrying any students) that was traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue near Regina Drive was also struck by Doulaveris’ car, police said.

Hobuame was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.

This collision remains under investigation.  Anyone who witnessed this collision or has information about this collision is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620.
