7770 Norfolk Groundbreaking (Photos)

The JBG Companies, ROSS Development & Investment and the CIM Group on October 3 celebrated the start of construction on 7770 Norfolk, a new 17-story development at the corner of Woodmont and Norfolk avenues, in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle. 7770 Norfolk will include 244 highly designed apartments and 6,000 square feet retail. The project is located just across the street from Veterans Park in Bethesda and less than a third of a mile from the Bethesda Metro.

The exterior design of 7777 Norfolk, by FXFOWLE Architects of New York, N.Y., emphasizes urbanism, technology and sustainability. Crisp, white metal panels wrap the building’s façade and are juxtaposed against minimalist glass and textured bronze panels, creating a stunning statement on the Woodmont Triangle streetscape.

“This architecture brings a new urban edge to this part of Bethesda,” said Kai Reynolds a partner with JBG. “Woodmont Triangle is an integral and established neighborhood that is ready for an infusion of modern spirit, and we believe 7770 Norfolk will be a catalyst in this process.”

A public pedestrian pathway connecting Fairmont Avenue with the public parking garage on Woodmont Avenue will enliven the street front with a public art series by Frederick, Md., artist William Cochran. The street-level retail is envisioned as restaurant and café space that will keep the area active.
