5 Things to Know Today, April 30, in Montgomery County

Today is Friday, April 30, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. Bus Stop 24213 Temporary Closure:  The Ride On bus stop on Montgomery Village Avenue at Centerway Road closes for at least five months for construction.

2. Nature on Wheels:  Montgomery Parks debuts their new mobile nature center and science field station today with a stop at Acorn Park in Silver Spring from 3-8 p.m.  On Saturday, May 1, it will be at Rachel Carson Conservation Park in Olney from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2 it will visit Arora Hills Local Park in Clarksburg from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Check out the Locust Grove Nature Center’s Facebook page for the future schedule.

3. Glen Echo Park Carousel Ribbon Cutting:  The Dentzel Carousel has been repaired and is reopening. Saturday, May 1 the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to view the event virtually on the park’s website.

4. Gaithersburg Book Festival: For the second year the festival will take place virtually throughout the month of May.  Check out our guide to the 2021 Virtual Gaithersburg Book Festival to plan your GBF experience. 5. Two Nature Centers Reopen:  Montgomery Parks is beginning to re-open nature center facilities. During opening hours, staff will be onsite, and restrooms will be open. Indoor play areas, activities, and exhibits remain closed. On Saturday, May 1 both Brookside Nature Center and Locust Grove Nature Center will open on Saturdays and Sundays.

And One More Thing:  Montgomery Community Media and the County Council discuss microaggressions in a special presentation titled #SeeMeMontgomery: Microaggressions. A microaggression is defined as: “A statement, action or incident regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle or unintentional.” Watch the conversation here:
